Design And Development Of Variable Volume Flowmeter

ABSTRACT:

The main concern of this report is to design and develop a primary standard variable volume
flowmeter. This will be the first standard in Pakistan considering the vacuum ranges. This will
be used to measure the flowrates of molecular ranges of pressure in vacuum technology. In
this flowmeter, the bellow is used to vary the volume to keep the pressure constant in the
working volume. A restriction or a leak valve is used to produce the leak rate through which
the flowrate is measured. This flowmeter will be used with the standard leak calibration system
(SLCS) for measuring the flowrates. This flowmeter is used in the leak calibration, gauge
calibration and for the performance study of the vacuum pumps.

Conclusion


In this report we have discussed the basics of the vacuum sciences and the technology
related to the low pressure ranges. The main focus of this present work is to develop a
primary standard of the variable volume flowmeter in Pakistan to measure the leak rates
of the gauges. This is of the primary concern for the industries and it is the need of the
hour for the NinVast.

The related terminologies like throughput, outgassing and all the basic theory related to
the understanding of this flowmeter is well detailed explained above. Flowmeter is
basically a device used to measure the rate of flow of gasses using the variation of
pressure and volume while keeping the ratio constant.

Our present work is concerned with varying the volume while keeping the pressure
constant. Our main focus is to obtain leak rate of about ≤10−8 m.bar l/sec. the bsic
schematic design and working is explained above. The fabrication will be done
according to the schedule in near future .
